Zaterdag schreef ik een piepklein stukje over de eerste single van Björks nieuwe album Volta, Björk: Earth Intruders. De single is nog niet officieel uitgebracht maar is wel gestreamd de wereld ingestuurd. Ik linkte in mijn postje naar een website gehost door wordpress.com, waarop een link naar een mp3 van de single stond, geript van de stream neem ik aan. In mijn post stond een oude foto van Björk, geen artwork of iets dergelijks.
Zondag reageerde de manager van Bjork, Scott Rodger, ‘please allow her the oppportunity to release her album before you give it away.’ (Tskkk, ik geef niks weg. Ik link.)
Vanmiddag kreeg ik een mail van Arcadic Records Group: Notice of Infringement and Declaration. En cc was gestuurd naar mijn host pair.com.

Bogus, een kwestie van bangmakerij. Ik verheugde mij dan ook na de avondmaaltijd met de mevrouw van de platenmaatschappij te kunnen corresponderen. Na het eten echter bleek pair.com mijn site pardoes offline te hebben gehaald, zonder verdere aankondiging of iets dergelijks en had ik de volgende mail ontvangen:
“Recently, we have received the notice below regarding illegal use of registered trademarks or copyrighted materials on your Web site hosted with our services. Use of copyrighted materials or trademarks without permission is illegal, and as such is grounds for immediate termination of your services with pair Networks as per our posted policies in our service contract at:

Na mijn uitleg dat ik slechts linkte naar een andere website kreeg ik als antwoord:
I apologize for needing to take down your site. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to judge how valid a complaint is; we are legally obligated to act on the complaint, and that’s all we’re permitted to do.
I can unlock the site so that you can remove the link that has Atlantic up in arms. Please let us know if this is a change you will be able to make and how long you believe it will take you to do so.
Onder protest heb ik maar de link in het betreffende postje verwijderd en heb ik voor de zekerheid ook het plaatje verwijderd. Earth Intruders is naar verluidt een goed nummer, dat dan weer wel.
